"Pileated Woodpecker"
Corkscrew Swamp
Wildlife Sanctuary, FL
This beautiful male first landed
about six feet from me -- too close for the lens at hand, but stunning
to see. Then at 60+ feet he required a very long lens. Moreover, to
shoot through the trees I had to dismount the big lens from the tripod
and balance it on a railing, using my glasses between the rail and the
lens foot to get the right angle. While shifting the lens,
stupidly, the glasses fell -- landing in the water below not far from an
alligator! They were not recovered, but the pictures were worth
it. Shot on Velvia film at ISO 50 with an 840mm lens at f-5.6 and
1/40sec.
Available in all sizes up to 11x14.
Edition limit is 30 prints 8x10 and larger.
